Patient Treatment Plans

How Treatment Plans Are Generated

Treatment plans are automatically created when practitioners complete SOAP charts. The treatment plan is built from specific sections of the SOAP chart:

Default Treatment Plan Sections:

  • Free Form Plan section
  • Product Recommendations
  • Diet & Nutrition Recommendations
  • Lifestyle Recommendations
  • Other Recommendations

Patient Access Requirements

For patients to view treatment plans in their Patient Portal:

  1. Full Access Account Required - Patient must have full access (obtained through Medical Access Code)
  2. Treatment Plan Sharing Enabled - Practitioner must have enabled treatment plan sharing in their settings

Practitioner Control Options

Practitioners have several options for controlling treatment plan visibility. By default, all treatment plans are available to patients in their patient portals if they have unlocked full access. Practitioners can change this default setting from 3 places in their accounts - the Chart Settings page, the Chart Editing page, or the Treatment Plan Print View.

Chart Settings

You can access the chart settings for your account by going to the main navigation menu and clicking on the dropdown next to Smart Charts, and then select Chart Settings. From the chart settings page, look for the section titled “Chart Display and Printing Preferences”. Look for this setting:

Do you want your patients to see Treatment Plans have access to Treatment Plans generated from your charts?

  • Yes: By default, all your treatment plans will be immediately visible to patients in their patient portal if they have full access
  • No: By default, your treatment plans will not show up in any patient portal
  • Only Locked Charts: By default, your treatment plans will only show up in the patient portal AFTER you lock/sign your chart

Chart Editing View or Treatment Plan Print View

Both of these places have the same options available as the chart settings above, but they allow you to override the default settings and specify those preferences for this individual treatment plan.

Examples of Override Usage:

  • If your chart settings do not allow any sharing at all, you can override this for individual treatment plans and make them visible as needed
  • If your chart settings allow all treatment plans to be visible, you can selectively override this for individual charts and prevent them from showing up on the patient portal

How to Access Override Options:

  • Treatment Plan Print View: Click on the “person” icon at the top right of the page
  • Chart Editing View: Click on the “person” icon at the top of the chart

How Patients View Treatment Plans

When both access requirements are met:

  1. Patient logs into their Patient Portal with full access
  2. Navigates to the “Documents” section
  3. Views all shared treatment plans from their practitioners
  4. Can review recommendations and plans at their convenience
