PRO Charting
Introduction to PRO Charting
PRO Charting in OutSmart EMR gives practitioners access to the full range of advanced charting tools. Unlike Basic Charting (which functions like a free-form text document), PRO Charting organizes data into structured sections, enabling advanced features such as tracking, reuse, and research analytics.
With PRO Charting you can work with:
- Product recommendations
- Prescription creation
- Herbal tinctures
- IV therapy templates
- Injection templates
- Acupuncture templates
- Diagnoses
- Specialized forms and checklists
- Measurement tracking and graphing over time
- Many other advanced sections
Benefits of PRO Charting:
- Structured, detailed charting beyond Basic Charting.
- Save and reuse information across patients and visits.
- Create templates for sections or entire charts.
- Configure unique chart configurations for different types of patient visits.
- Draw directly within charts.
- Access a library of professionally made advanced charting sections.
Medical Summary
The Medical Summary gives you a quick preview of a patient’s current medical situation.
- Information entered using PRO Charting sections is categorized by date and time.
- Pertinent details are summarized in the Medical Summary area of the Client Workspace.
- As new information is added, the summary updates automatically.
- If products are discontinued or diagnoses are resolved, they are automatically removed.

Headings and Smart Lists
Headings add subcategories or context within chart sections.
- Example: Add a Chief Concerns section to the Subjective page and use a heading like “Headaches.”
- Each heading provides context for notes.
- Multiple Chief Concerns sections can be added with different headings to itemize concerns.

Section Headings can be customized to your use
Smart Lists save reusable text (sentences, paragraphs, or full responses). They increase efficiency by allowing you to insert frequently used content quickly.
- In some cases, Smart Lists are tied to a specific Heading.
- Example: The heading “Headaches” in Chief Concerns has a different Smart List than “Infertility.”
- In other cases, Smart Lists apply to the entire section (e.g., Acupuncture section).
- Not all sections support Smart Lists (e.g., Subjective questionnaires).

Smartlists unique to each Heading can be saved to speed up charting
Protocols
Protocols save the configuration of an entire section. While Smart Lists will save a sentence or paragraph in a text field, a Protocol saves the configuration of an entire section, for example an entier product recommendation, or an entire IV Therapy procedure.
Protocols can be created in the following PRO Charting sections:
- Measurements
- Products (supplements, tinctures, pharmaceuticals, etc.)
- Acupuncture
- IV therapy
- Injections
Smart Templates
Smart Templates save the configuration of several sections across an entire chart. A Smart Template could be as extensive as an entire chart preconfigured for a specific purpose, like a fertility intake visit, or is can be as focused as a specific combination of product recommendations. It can contain any combination of any of the sections available in a chart.
