Patient Privacy Between Team Members

What Is Patient List Privacy?

Patient List Privacy is a built-in feature of the OutSmart EMR system designed to accommodate both collaborative clinics and those where practitioners do not share information. This is achieved by creating connections, or “links,” between patients, practitioners, and offices.

The Patient Link allows OutSmart to determine what you have permission to do with a patient’s record. For example:

  • Another practitioner at your clinic cannot view a patient’s demographic information or create a chart for them unless that patient has booked an appointment with them.
  • A practitioner cannot create a chart for a patient at an office the patient has never visited. The patient must have an appointment booked at that office first.
  • Admin staff cannot access patient records from offices the patient has never been to, even if the patient is a client of a practitioner at that office.

All of these rules are designed to maintain Patient Privacy. It’s also important to note that the OutSmart Calendar plays a central role in giving both admins and practitioners the permission to see specific patient records when supported by an appointment booking.
