Pro Charting Sections

PRO Charting works by adding sections to a chart, one at a time, where each section has its own structure for capturing a specific kind of clinical information. You build a chart by stacking the sections you need for the visit and skipping the ones you don’t.

This page is the index for the section types. Each section’s own page covers the specific fields, common use cases, and how it interacts with the rest of the chart.

The Section Types

SectionWhat it capturesWhen to use it
Basic HeadingsA labelled free-text area — a heading plus body text below itWhen you want a structured place for a particular subject (history of presenting complaint, family history, etc.) without specific fields
Heading With StatusA labelled section that includes a status indicator (active, improved, resolved, etc.)For long-running concerns you’ll track across visits — review-of-systems items, ongoing complaints, follow-up topics
Free Form SectionsA blank text area without a fixed headingFor narrative content that doesn’t fit a labelled section — visit summaries, conversation notes, plan paragraphs
QuestionnairesAn embedded Smart Form questionnaire inside the chartWhen the visit involves a standardized questionnaire (PHQ-9, GAD-7, intake forms) — saves switching to the Smart Forms area mid-visit
IV TherapyRecipe-driven IV bag composition, ingredient lots, expiry, and bag-label printingNaturopathic and IM/IV clinics for IV treatments — see IV Therapy
InjectionsStructured injection records — substance, site, route, lot numberWhen administering injections (B12, trigger-point, vaccine, etc.) — captured with the same lot-tracking discipline as IV
AcupuncturePoint selection, needle counts, retention, techniqueTCM and acupuncture-style charts

The PRO Charting feature also includes three structured-data section types covered on their own pages: Measurements for vitals and trended numerical values, Diagnoses for working diagnoses with billable codes, and Product Recommendations for products and prescriptions that flow into Express Checkout.

Adding a Section to a Chart

Every section type is added the same way — from the + button menus on the left side of the chart index. The button you click depends on which page of the chart the section belongs to:

  • +S — adds a section to the Subjective page
  • +O — adds a section to the Objective page
  • +A — adds a section to the Assessment page
  • +P — adds a section to the Plan page

The section appears in the chart immediately and is added to the chart index on the left so you can jump to it.

Reordering and Removing Sections

  • Reorder — drag any section’s heading in the chart index. The chart updates as you drag.
  • Remove — click the section’s heading in the chart, then use the section menu at the top right of that section.

Removing a section deletes any content you’ve entered in it. If you might want it back, save the chart first.
