AI Plans

An AI Plan is a monthly subscription that gives a single practitioner a recurring bucket of AI credits. Every month on your renewal date the bucket refills to the plan’s allotment plus a small accuracy bonus, and you have credits to spend across Lab AI, Patient Correspondence, and any future AI feature.

This page explains the plan options, how to pick one, and what happens at renewal, upgrade, downgrade, and cancellation.

The plan options

OutSmart offers a small set of AI Plans sized by monthly credit allotment. Each plan is named for what it gives you each month:

Plan nameBest for
40 AI CreditsA practitioner who uses AI occasionally, such as a few lab reports or letters a month.
150 AI CreditsA practitioner who uses AI as part of their routine. Most lab uploads run through Lab AI, most letters to other providers use Patient Correspondence.
500 AI CreditsA heavy user, or a practitioner with a high volume of lab reports.

Each plan also has an Office Pool counterpart, a single subscription that the office owner buys and the whole office can draw from. The Office Pool options have their own page. See Office Pool.

The current monthly price for each plan is shown on the AI Plans tab of the Subscriptions page. Prices are set there and may be adjusted. We don’t list dollar prices in this guide so the information you read is always current.

The monthly accuracy bonus

Every time your AI Plan renews, the bucket refills to the plan’s named allotment plus a small accuracy bonus. The bonus is meant as a small thank-you for staying on a recurring plan. Practitioners with an active AI Plan get slightly more credits than the plan’s name suggests.

The bonus percentage and the exact way it works are described on the AI Plans tab of the Subscriptions page.

What an AI Plan covers

An AI Plan covers every paid AI feature in OutSmart: Lab AI (extraction and interpretation), Patient Correspondence, and any future paid AI feature. There isn’t a separate plan for each feature. One credit balance covers all of them.

The plan is per-practitioner. If your office has three practitioners and all three want a monthly bucket, each one needs their own plan. Or the office owner can buy an Office Pool that all three can draw from.

Subscribing to an AI Plan

  1. Open the Subscriptions page from your account menu.
  2. Click the AI Plans tab.
  3. Pick the plan you want and follow the subscription flow.
  4. Your monthly bucket is granted right away. The credit counter on every AI button updates within a few seconds.

The Subscriptions page is open to all practitioners, not just the office owner. If you were invited to join an office as a practitioner and you want your own AI Plan, you can subscribe directly from there.

What happens at renewal

On your renewal date each month:

  • OutSmart charges your payment method for the plan’s monthly price.
  • Your bucket refills to the plan’s allotment plus the accuracy bonus.
  • Any personal plan credits left over from last month are not carried over. The refill is a reset, not a top-up. (Top-up credits you bought separately are different. They don’t reset; see Top-Up Credits.)
  • You keep using AI features without interruption.

Upgrading or downgrading

You can change plans from the AI Plans tab on the Subscriptions page.

  • Upgrading to a larger plan. The new plan’s allotment becomes your active monthly bucket. Billing is prorated for the rest of the current period.
  • Downgrading to a smaller plan. The change takes effect at the end of your current billing period. You finish out the current month on your current plan, then the smaller plan kicks in at renewal.

Cancelling an AI Plan

You can cancel your AI Plan from the Subscriptions page. The cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period. You keep your credits until then.

When the cancellation period ends, your personal AI Plan credits are cleared. A few important things to know about that:

  • Top-up credits you bought separately are NOT cleared. They stay in your account and remain usable on any AI feature. See Top-Up Credits.
  • You can still use Ask OutSmart, the in-app help assistant. It does not use AI credits.
  • You don’t lose access to existing patient charts, referrals, or lab imports. Cancelling only affects new AI actions. Everything already filed in the chart stays.

To start using paid AI features again after cancellation, subscribe to a new AI Plan or buy top-up credits.

A practitioner without a Basic or PRO subscription

You can subscribe to an AI Plan without holding an active Basic or PRO subscription. The two are independent. The Subscriptions page will display a small warning when an AI plan is being added for a practitioner who doesn’t have Basic or PRO active, letting the owner know. It does not block the purchase.

This means a practitioner who joined an office only to use specific AI features, or a practitioner whose office hasn’t subscribed them to Basic or PRO, can still have an AI Plan.

Troubleshooting

I subscribed but my balance hasn’t updated

Refresh the page. The credit counter pulls from the server when the page loads and after each AI action.

If the balance still hasn’t updated after a refresh, the payment may not have completed. Check the Subscriptions page for the plan’s status, or contact us at contact.outsmartemr.com.

My renewal payment failed

OutSmart retries the charge automatically for a short grace period. During the retry window your AI features keep working with your existing balance. If the retry never succeeds, your next AI click shows a panel pointing you to the Subscriptions page to update your payment method.

You’ll also get an email from our payment processor about the failed charge, which is the easiest way to fix it before it affects your AI access.

I want to switch the AI Plan from one practitioner to another

AI Plans can’t be reassigned mid-period. To move an AI Plan from one practitioner to another:

  1. Remove the AI Plan from the first practitioner on the Subscriptions page.
  2. Add an AI Plan to the second practitioner.

The first practitioner’s plan credits are cleared when their assignment is removed. The second practitioner gets a fresh credit grant for the new plan. Top-up credits the first practitioner had bought separately stay in their account.
