Locking and Unlocking a Chart

Clicking the ‘lock’ button at the top of the charting interface digitally signs your chart, making it a legal document. It also changes the chart’s status to “locked” in your chart list.

To unlock a chart, simply click the red ‘unlocked’ button next to the chart in your chart list to resume editing. The audit trail will reflect that changes were made after the chart was signed.

Caution

Locking is a digital signature — once a chart is locked, it becomes a legal document. Unlocking and editing later is allowed, but every edit after the lock is recorded in the audit trail with a timestamp, and the chart effectively shows that it was modified after signing. Lock only when you’re genuinely done with the visit; the audit history is permanent.
