Charting Preferences
The Charting Preferences page is where you turn on chart-wide features and set defaults that apply to every chart you create. Most preferences are personal — they affect only your account.
To open Charting Preferences:
- Open the Main Navigation Menu and choose Smart Charts.
- Open the Settings tab at the top of the Smart Charts page.
Student / Intern Workflow
If you’re a student or intern working under a supervising practitioner’s licence, this is where you turn on the chart-review workflow. Once enabled, the Lock button in the chart editor is replaced with a Request Review button — you finish your chart, request review, the supervisor signs off (with or without comments), and the chart becomes a signed clinical record.
Only the student needs to turn this on. The supervisor doesn’t change any setting in their own account. See Charting for Students or Interns for the full workflow on both sides.
Default Chart Sections
Some preferences let you pre-set which sections appear on every new chart you create. Setting these once means you don’t add the same recurring sections by hand each visit.
The default-section options depend on which PRO Charting features you’re using. See PRO Charting for the section types available; once you know which ones you use regularly, set them as defaults here.
Other Preferences
The Settings tab also includes preferences for:
- Chart auto-save interval — how often a draft auto-saves while you’re typing
- Smart Templates default behaviour — how templates apply when added to a chart
- Section ordering defaults — the order new sections appear in the chart index when added
Hover over any setting in the Settings tab for the one-line explanation of what it controls.
