Service Categories

What Are Service Categories?

Categories let you group related services together. For example:

How Categories Work

Category Display

When categories are configured:

  • A category slider appears at the top of the booking panel
  • Each category has a button patients can click
  • “All” shows all services
  • Clicking a category filters to only those services

Without Categories

If no categories are set up:

  • Services appear in a flat list
  • No category slider is shown
  • Services can still be reordered

”Other Services”

Services not assigned to a category appear under “Other Services” at the bottom of the sidebar.


Creating Categories

Step-by-Step

  1. Log in with administrator permissions

  2. Visit your booking page in edit mode

  3. In the sidebar, look for the “Add Category” option

  4. Enter a category name (e.g., “Assessments”)

  5. Click Create or press Enter

  6. The category appears in the sidebar

    New categories start empty. You'll need to drag services into them.


Assigning Services to Categories

Drag and Drop

The easiest way to organize services:

  1. Find the service you want to move
  2. Click and hold the drag handle (usually left side)
  3. Drag the service to the target category
  4. Drop when the category highlights
  5. The service moves immediately

Moving Between Categories

  • Drag a service from one category to another
  • Drop it in the desired location
  • Order within the category is preserved

Auto-Expand on Drag

When dragging a service over a collapsed category:

  • The category automatically expands
  • Drop your service in the revealed area
  • Collapsed empty categories expand when you drag over them

Managing Categories

Renaming a Category

  1. Find the category header
  2. Click the pencil icon (edit button)
  3. Enter the new name
  4. Press Enter or click Save

Deleting a Category

  1. Find the category header

  2. Click the X button (delete button)

  3. Confirm the deletion

  4. All services in that category move to “Other Services”

    Deleting a category doesn't delete the services - they're automatically moved to "Other Services."

Reordering Categories

  1. Click and hold the category header’s drag handle
  2. Drag up or down to reposition
  3. Drop in the new location
  4. The order is saved automatically

Category Visibility

Patient View

Patients see:

  • Only categories that contain enabled services
  • Categories in your defined order
  • Category slider if multiple categories exist

Patients do NOT see:

  • Empty categories
  • Category edit controls
  • “Other Services” if empty

Admin View

Administrators see:

  • All categories, including empty ones
  • Edit and delete controls
  • Drag handles for reordering
  • Empty categories with drop zones

Category Slider

When It Appears

The category slider appears when:

  • At least one named category has services
  • Not in service focus mode (single service view)

The slider is hidden when:

  • No categories exist
  • All categories are empty
  • Viewing a single pre-selected service

Service Order Within Categories

Within each category, services appear in a specific order:

  1. Your custom drag-and-drop order
  2. Services you’ve positioned higher appear first
  3. Newly added services appear at the end

Reordering Services

  1. Find the service within its category
  2. Drag it up or down
  3. Drop in the desired position
  4. Order saves automatically

Best Practices

Naming Categories

Organizing Services

  • Group by service type (assessments, treatments, consults)
  • Group by patient stage (new patient, ongoing care)
  • Group by speciality or department
  • Limit to 5-7 categories maximum

Mobile Consideration

On mobile devices:

  • Category slider scrolls horizontally
  • Keep category names concise
  • Test the experience on a phone

Context-Specific Categories

Independent by Page

Categories are specific to each booking page:

  • Office pages have their own categories
  • Practitioner pages have separate categories
  • Changes to one don’t affect the other

Why This Matters

  • Offices might organize by department
  • Practitioners might organize by their specialty focus
  • Same services can be categorized differently on each page

Troubleshooting

Category Not Appearing

  • Ensure at least one service is assigned
  • Verify services in the category are enabled
  • Empty categories are hidden from patients

Can’t Drag Services

  • Ensure you’re in edit mode (logged in)
  • Click the drag handle, not the service content
  • Wait for any pending saves to complete

Services Disappeared After Deleting Category

  • Services move to “Other Services” automatically
  • Scroll to the bottom of the sidebar
  • Drag them into a different category

Category Slider Not Showing

  • Need at least one category with services
  • Check that you’re not in service focus mode
  • Verify services are enabled
