A product in OutSmart refers to supplements, blends, prescriptions, homeopathics, tinctures, and anything else you may recommend or prescribe to your patient.
The Product Section in your SOAP chart is linked to your OutSmart dispensary. Even if you do not sell products, you still need to have a dispensary configured in your OutSmart account because the dispensary stores all information about products recommended in your charts. Among other things, this allows for all sorts of useful reporting down the road.
This means that any products that exist in your OutSmart dispensary will be available for you to recommend to your patients while charting.
To add a product to your medical chart, start off by adding a Product Section to your chart, and the select or create a product or blend within that section. To add a product section, first click the green ‘+P’ button to the left of your chart, and then select the Products section from the menu of available sections.

Once you have added a Product Section to your chart, ensure that the dispensary you have selected is the correct dispensary where the product information is stored, and then select the product you want to recommend from the product drop down list.

Once you have the product selected, you can then move on to entering the details of your recommendation. This could include creating a prescription, creating a product schedule, or even creating a new recipe or customizing an existing recipe. We will cover these various advanced possibilities further below. But for now, there is a simple way to get your recommendations into the chart if you do not want to use those advanced sections, and that is by using the text areas for Dosage & Instructions, and Description.
After you have selected a product, you can then ignore all the advanced tools and simply type in the dosage you want to recommend. You can also optionally enter a description of the product, and how it related to the patient’s condition.

If you want to keep your product charting at this basic level, then you can stop there. If you want to take your product charting to the next level, then you can explore the advanced workflows using blends, prescriptions, and product schedules.
But what if you are recommending a new product, that was not previously entered into your OutSmart Dispensary? In that case, you can create it on-the-fly while charting.
When you have your Product Section loaded into your chart, ensure that the dispensary you have selected is correct, and then click on the “Menu” button directly to the right of the Product Selection Box, and then click on “Create New Product”.

When the New Product Creation window open, the only required piece of information is the product’s name. Everything else can be ignored if you are in a rush. That data can be added to the product later, from within the OutSmart Dispensary. However, if you do have time, you can add in all the extra details.

Once you are done, click on Create Product, and it will be added as the selected product.
